Welcome all!!
This is the premier post to this blog and I'd like to open the conversation with an introduction to myself and to this blog.
I am an occupational therapist who works with children in a variety of settings. I treat children at home and at school. I work with children having difficulties with fine motor, sensory procesing, and visual processing skills. The children I see have developmental disabilities, such as autism, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, and...well...anything that might negatively impact those skill sets I just mentioned.
My proudest professional acheivement thus far is that I, along with my co-author, just had a book published: Autism and DD at School; OT to the Rescue.
I've initiated this blog to learn more about my clients and to grow personally and professionally. Frequently I don't get to interact with parents, families, doctors, or others who might share insight into the interesting world of developemtnal disabilities.
Sooo... Let's get this show on the road!
I live in San Diego and I'm grounded for now because of locally raging wildfires. I am wondering if the smoky, ashy, unhealthy air is negatively impacting all the kiddos with autism. I've heard many parents say that they notice differences in their children when there is a change in the weather or when their immune systems are compromised. Also, a teacher told me today that the smoke can trigger seizures. Do you have a loved one with a developmental disability that is impacted by wildfires?
